Lugol’s iodine is a solution that primarily consists of two key components: potassium iodide (KI) and molecular iodine (I2), dissolved in purified distilled water. The typical formulation includes a concentration of iodine at approximately 5% and potassium iodide at around 10%.The chemical formula of Lugol’s iodine can be expressed as: I2 + KI → KI3.  In this formulation, the iodine interacts with potassium iodide to form a complex, which increases the solution’s effectiveness.

Authentic iodine complex:

Crafted using the same components and formulation developed in 1829 by the French physician Jean Lugol, which includes different ratios of iodine (I2) to potassium Iodide (KI) that will result in a specific solution’s potency.

Additionally, using the correct components’ ratios is crucial to ensure the iodine is readily available in the solution, facilitating its absorption when applied or ingested.

2.5 mg of pure iodine per drop

Each metric drop (= 1/20 ml) contains 1.0 mg of iodine and 1.5 mg of Iodine from potassium iodide (= 2.5 mg of Iodine per drop). 2 drops is about 5.0 mg of iodine/iodide.  Approx. drops per 2 fl. oz container = 1,200 (20 drops per 1 ml).
